You may meet Cats Protection fundraisers at events, shops and even at your door.
What is face-to-face and door-to-door fundraising?
Cats Protection has partnered with two professional fundraising agencies, The Professional Fundraiser and Charity Link. You may see our fundraisers face-to-face at various events, shopping centres and supermarkets, as well as at your door.
Operating all over the UK, our agency fundraisers engage with members of the public to promote the Cats Protection Weekly Lottery, Cats Protection Sponsorship and Cats Protection Membership.
To help continue the vital work that Cats Protection does, our professional fundraisers recruit new supporters who will make a monthly subscription by Direct Debit. Fundraisers will also provide contact information for rehoming, neutering and volunteering enquiries.
Our face-to-face and door-to-door fundraisers will always:
- wear charity-branded clothing
- wear a clearly displayed ID badge (usually on a lanyard)
- work within the confines of their allocated position at the venue/retail space/locality they are operating in
- complete a health and safety and fire safety risk assessment, and maintain a safe environment for staff and members of the public
- let you know that they work for an agency, if you set up a financial donation. They will also let you know how much the agency will be paid and how much we expect to raise from the campaign
Our fundraisers will never:
- ask for or accept a donation of cash or goods (in such situations we will advise members of the public to contact and make their donation through their local Cats Protection volunteer team or centre)
- behave in a way that might reasonably cause a nuisance or obstruct members of the public
- do anything that might cause a member of the public to become alarmed or distressed
Why does Cats Protection fundraise this way?
Connecting with cat lovers across the UK, our professional fundraisers are engaging directly with members of the public in a personal and convenient way. Face-to-face and door-to-door fundraising helps us achieve our goals of helping not just the cats in our care, but every cat.
Face-to-face fundraising is one of the most cost-effective ways of bringing new supporters to Cats Protection, allowing us to positively impact the lives of millions of cats.
Door-to-door fundraising
Door-to-door fundraising is where professional fundraisers will make direct contact with potential donors at their homes. Door-to-door makes it a convenient way for you to support Cats Protection.
Our professional fundraisers we will be working with for door-to-door, Charity Link, will:
- ensure appropriate licenses are taken out to fundraise in your area
- respect any ‘no cold calling’ areas or notices on doors
- always be clearly identifiable, with charity branded uniform and relevant identification
- only fundraise in the following areas (Dorchester, Bournemouth and Poole, Worthing and Kingston-upon-Thames) between the hours of 9am and 9pm, Monday to Saturday; and between 10am and 9pm on Sundays and public holidays
- only ask you to support us through the Cats Protection Sponsorship scheme
All fundraisers work in accordance with the Code of Fundraising Practice from the Fundraising Regulator.

About our fundraisers
Our fundraisers are highly trained and enthusiastic individuals who are dedicated to raising money to help us create a better life for cats.
To ensure all interactions are professional and compliant with the Code of Fundraising Practice, all fundraisers working on our behalf through both door-to-door and face-to-face fundraising receive frequent, high-quality training.
Fundraisers receive detailed training on compliance to the Fundraising Code of Practice, as well as our vulnerability policy to ensure a positive and professional supporter experience. Through regular mystery shopping and audits on our face-to-face and door-to-door activity, we ensure our professional fundraisers are meeting the high standards we expect from them.
If you need reassurance that a fundraiser is legitimate, or you have another query regarding our face-to-face or door-to-door fundraising, please contact our Supporter Services team on 0800 917 2287 or supporter.services@cats.org.uk
