Along with other animal welfare charities in the UK, we’re urging owners to make sure their cats are looked after in the case of an emergency situation during the current crisis.

We’re asking owners to download and print off an emergency pet care form and display this in their home. This ensures that, should the worst happen, there will be someone to care for their cat.

The emergency pet care form was created by the RSPCA to ensure all animals will be well looked after during the crisis, and is being shared by a number of animal welfare charities.

Dr Samantha Gaines, head of the RSPCA’s Companion Animals department said:

“Although no one wants to talk about the worst happening, it’s important to consider what would happen to our pets if we become ill, hospitalised, or pass away.

“The RSPCA is urging pet owners to take steps to set up a care plan for their pet in the event that they can no longer care for them. Think about who would look after your pets and have a chat with your family, friends and neighbours to make sure they’re happy to take on this responsibility.”

The RSPCA have created the animal care form for owners to fill in and put on their fridge, as well as a notice to put in a front window (or somewhere visible) to let people know that there are pets inside. The hope is that this will provide peace of mind to owners, particularly those living alone, who are concerned about the welfare of their pet.
