Big Winter Roam | Virtual Walking Challenge

What is the Big Winter Roam?

Our Big Winter Roam is a virtual walking challenge taking place during February 2026. It's open to everyone of all abilities to take part, including those who may need to complete some or all of their miles using a mobility aid.

How far do I have to walk?

You can select one of our set challenge distances below, or you can choose your own distance. The choice is yours!

15 miles
50 miles
100 miles

When does the walk take place?

You can choose to walk your miles at any time across any number of strolling sessions throughout the month of February. Whatever works for you works for us.

Where can I do my miles?

Anywhere! All you need is some appropriate footwear for your walk and to dress for the weather, the rest is up to you.

How can I track my miles?

There are many apps you can use to track your distance, but we recommend Strava. Alternatively, you can map out your route in advance or following your walk and record the distance.

How much money do I have to raise?

It costs £22 to sign up which includes your exclusive Cats Protection beanie and will support our work to create a better life for cats. You can also set up a JustGiving page and fundraise for your challenge, meaning your miles will make an even bigger impact on the cats that need our help.

Why should I take on the Big Winter Roam?

You’ll feel amazing inside and out as you accomplish your Big Winter Roam. Not only will this challenge get you strolling in the fresh winter air, each step you take will be a step towards a better life for cats across the UK.

How your miles will help cats

Without your support, we simply wouldn’t be able to provide the level of care we do for cats on a daily basis.

£20 could cover the cost of flea treatment for four cats
Just £50 could cover the cost of feeding 10 cats in our care for 25 days
£100 would cover the full cost of neutering for two male cats

You can choose any local Cats Protection to receive 100% of your registration fee and the funds you raise from your challenge, helping the cats in your area.
