Sian was not allowed to have a pet in her rented property but she was desperate to adopt a cat.
She heard about the Purrfect Landlords campaign and used the advice to write to her landlord asking them to consider allowing her to keep a cat. Sian was delighted when her landlord agreed and it wasn’t long before she welcomed Captain from Cats Protection’s National Cat Adoption Centre into her home.
For Sian, having a cat in her house makes it a home.
Sam adopted Bert from Cats Protection’s Warrington Adoption Centre in June 2017. When Sam had to move south, she approached letting agents but found herself being rejected almost immediately because she had a cat, with many agents not even taking the time to contact the landlords directly to address the issue.
She then found a flat that was perfect. Initially, the letting agent stated that the landlord said no pets, but Sam was determined to rent the flat. She told the agent that Bert was a relaxed, elderly indoor cat, who was fully vaccinated, neutered, microchipped and treated for fleas and worms. She explained that he had not previously caused any damage to other rented properties, and that previous landlords would happily give him his own reference. The agent agreed to chat to the landlord.
Upon hearing how passionate Sam was about keeping Bert, he agreed to accept him into the property with an extra deposit.
Five-year-old Moodles was brought to the National Cat Adoption Centre simply because her owner’s new landlord would not allow her to bring any pets. However, Moodles was lucky to be recently adopted after her new owner managed to secure permission from their landlord to keep one cat in the rented property thanks to Cats Protection’s Purrfect Landlords campaign.
The online resources helped the new owner to outline the benefits of cat ownership to the landlord and reassure them that they would be a responsible cat owner.
Moodles is now settled in her new purrfect home!
