Volunteer and local cat lover Sue Carter is lacing up her walking boots on Saturday 31 August to raise funds for Cats Protection’s Skegness, Spilsby & Alford Branch.

After a tough year, Sue and her sister Karen decided they wanted to do something together to raise funds for the branch that Sue volunteers for.

Sue and Karen are both taking part in TrekFest - The Peaks, walking a total of 15 miles while admiring views of the beautiful Peak District. They hope people will support them by giving generously to beat their £500 target.sue carter skegness

“Last year was very tough – our mother passed away in October after a series of bad falls and heart problems,” said Sue.

“Now that things have got back to normal, Karen and I decided that we wanted to do something together as sisters. We talked about holidays, trips etc. and then we came across TrekFest challenges – this was just what we wanted, something to focus on while raising funds and hopefully getting fit!”

Sue has volunteered for the Skegness Branch for the last six months and is determined to achieve her goal of raising £500.

She added: “I volunteer with a group of like-minded people who are passionate about the welfare and safety of cats. As little as 20p will feed a cat or kitten for a day, £5 could pay towards a veterinary health check for a kitten and £10 can help provide specialist milk to keep a litter of orphaned kittens alive – any donation, no matter how small, will be much appreciated.”

Kay Wilding, Branch Development Manager, said: “People choose to take part in fundraising activities for Cats Protection for many reasons – maybe a personal challenge, to do something as part of a team or as an incentive to get fit. However, what unites all of the people who raise money for us is a love of cats, as every penny they raise will help cats in need.

“We’re really grateful to Sue and Karen for taking part in this challenge and we’ll all be cheering them on!”
