Signed up to the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme, the group visited Cats Protection’s National Cat Adoption Centre, in Sussex, to present a collection of cat products to the charity’s Paws Protect Team.
The NCS scheme aims to bring together young people from all different backgrounds for a common purpose and to help them build skills for work like and the transition into adulthood.
The Paws Protect Scheme is something that the NCS Worthing group, supported by Concordia, felt passionately about so decided to fundraise for it as part of their four-week experience that involved developing a social action project for a local cause they felt passionately about.
Cats Protection’s Paws Protect Scheme is a pet fostering service for families fleeing domestic abuse. Through a network of cat fosterers, the service provides a retreat for pets of those fleeing domestic abuse until they have a safe place to live and can be reunited.
Through holding cake sales and quiz nights, selling homemade cards and helping in Cats Protection’s Worthing Shop, funds were raised so they could buy cat goodies for Paws Protect cats.
Rose Abram, Cats Protection’s Paws Protect Coordinator, said: “We are so thankful to the Worthing NCS group for their hard work and dedication and for choosing Paws Protect.
“As we provide everything our fosterers need, from food to toys and cat beds, any donated gifts are always wonderful to receive. They will go a long way to helping many cats currently in foster care, ensuring they feel safe and happy while their families flee difficult situations.”
Paws Protect currently covers London, Hertfordshire, Essex, Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire.
