Welcome to Cats Protection Dorset Cat Centre

We're here to support cats and kittens in the area, covering all postcodes in the BH area as well as many in the DT, SP and SO postcode areas.

Run by a dedicated team of cat lovers, we're passionate about improving the lives of cats and kittens in the Dorset Cat Centre, working to find loving new homes for local cats in our care, and lost and found cats, as well as general education and awareness within the Dorset area. You can find out more about the work of Cats Protection here.

Thinking about giving up your cat for adoption?

From moving home and relationship break-ups to changes in the family or bereavement, there are many reasons why you might have to make the difficult decision to rehome your cat. For more information please visit our page about rehoming your cat.

*Please note due to the volume of cats needing our help in the area, we are currently working with a waiting list while we work to help those most urgently needing to come into care, and those already in our care as quickly as we can. We therefore recommend early contact should you need to rehome your cat(s). If you wish to discuss this with our team please contact the centre for more information.*

Cat adoption in Dorset

Could you offer a loving home to a cat from the Dorset Cat Centre? We carefully match each cat’s personality with your lifestyle and home to ensure the best fit. Every cat needs time to settle, so please consider whether now is the right time for you and your household.

To support the cats in our care, visits are by appointment only following a matched application. General walk-around cattery visits are no longer available, but our team is happy to discuss the adoption process during opening hours. Adoption fees are £85 per cat or £105 per kitten, payable on collection. You also have options to buy supplies, join our membership scheme or make a donation.

If you rent your home, written permission from your landlord or a copy of your tenancy agreement is required. Cats available for adoption are listed below. Please enquire via the individual listings or contact us on 03000 120 175 or by email for general enquiries.

Volunteer at Cats Protection Dorset Cat Centre

Without volunteers, the Dorset Cat Centre simply wouldn't exist. Our amazing, friendly volunteers are a diverse group with a shared love of cats who fit volunteering around their home lives and personal commitments.

We're often looking to welcome new volunteers to join our brilliant team. As well as meeting great people and making an incredible difference to the cats, you'll enjoy practical benefits such as discounted pet insurance. You can find out more about volunteering for Cats Protection here.

Work Experience / Silver & Gold Duke of Edinburgh Placements

We are delighted to be an approved activity provider for the volunteering section of the Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh award.   Volunteering with us is an excellent way to gain experience, develop your skills and to meet the volunteering requirements for the award.

Due to the time and commitment involved, placements are limited and subject to availability. We use a selection process and look for applicants who show clear commitment to cat welfare and an interest in animal welfare work. When available, priority is given to students seeking a minimum two-week placement and those studying an animal welfare qualification.

For more information, please contact volunteering@ferndown.cats.org.uk or call 03000 120 175.
